Violence erupted in Melbourne, Australia during an Akon concert on Monday Night (October 26)—leaving up to 18 people injured, including two security guards.
According to a source that contacted Word Is, several altercations broke out inside and outside Hisense Arena where the concert was held. A 21-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a security guard in the melee.
Footage posted on YouTube shows Akon jumping into the crowd to stop fans from fighting, urging patrons to "calm down.”
"It just seemed to be a bad combination of a lot of young guys in groups and the security," she told ABC. "They didn't seem to be stepping in until later on in the concert and that seemed to just fuel things."
The injured were all men and were taken to Royal Melbourne hospital in stable condition and authorities are questioning other concertgoers involved inside the venue. Meanwhile, Akon is due to play in Syndey, Australia tonight.
