Cameroon national soccer team captain Samuel Eto'o is in the country to grace the inaugural Laikipia Unity Cup tournament finals that will take place on today in Laikipia.
The famed footballer will watch a friendly match between Laikipia United and Mathare United organized by the Zeitz Foundation and Laikipia Wildlife Forum.
One of the guests expected at the friendly match is Jochen Zeitz, Founder and Chairman, Zeitz Foundation.
The Inter Milan striker, who has had a disastrous year with the ‘Indomitable Lions' visited the country earlier this year when he launched the tournament, aimed at boosting conservation efforts in the Laikipia region.
He captained Cameroon in the historical world cup in South Africa where the team crashed out of the tournament without winning a match in a tricky group E that also featured Denmark, eventual finalists Holland and Japan.
The Laikipia and Beyond Unity Cup is an invitational event, conceived by the Zeitz Foundation and organized with the Laikipia Wildlife Forum.
Eto'o is the patron for the Laikipia Unity and Beyond Cup that saw a total of thirty-two teams compete at four events with each region selecting the best players from the eight teams to form a combined team to represent the region in the finals.
The main sponsor is Safaricom, with support from the British Army.
The Inter Milan forward committed his coming for the finals early this year when his national side Cameroon's Indomitable lions made a one week stop over in Nairobi for a friendly match against Harambee Stars enroute to Egypt for the African cup of nations championship.
During his visit Eto'o will also visit Zeitz foundation's Segera ranch where he is expected to adopt an unidentified animal.
The final of the cup will be staged today in Laikipia before a select team plays premiership side Mathare United in a friendly match.
Jamaican world and Olympic sprints champion Usain Bolt and former world hurdles' record holder, Britain's Colin Jackson are the Foundation's ambassadors and were in the country in October last year in the company of Zeitz to launch the foundation.Usain Bolt adopted the world's fastest animal during his visit.
The Zeitz Foundation was registered in 2008 as a non-profit organization in Germany and has bases in the United States and the United Kingdom with its head quarters in the Laikipia based Segera ranch.
